"Haxan" (Denmark, 1922) 76 min. 100th Anniversary Live Cinema Event with five-piece band and narrator,

+ Silent short from Gilbert Haisman on piano accompanying ‘Neighbours’ – Buster Keaton, (USA,1920) 20min

“A thrilling and novel way to enjoy the confluence of cinema, music, and live performance. The new original score, composed by Andrew Laking, was an exciting piece of original New Zealand composition. The troupe’s dramaturgical decisions, particularly around using a woman narrator as an interesting feminist counterpoint to the strange ancient misogyny of the film’s story, was a hugely effective part of the overall impact of the show.” - Gaylene Preston ONZM, Filmmaker.

Haxan is the finale of the Paekakariki Film Festival 2022 June 26 to July 31. Curated by Arovision.co.nz
