Remember is one of the biggest concerts on the Navy Band's schedule each year and we are excited to be returning once again to the beautiful Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland. Held this year on Remembrance Day, Thursday 11 November at 7pm, the Navy Band will be reflecting on 80 years of the Royal New Zealand Navy. We are very excited to be joined this year by the talented singers of the Cantare Choir from Westlake Girls High School.
The Navy Band is the only full-time professional Military Concert Band in New Zealand and undertakes a wide range of duties each year. This year's highlights have included participation in celebrations at Waitangi on and around Waitangi Day, a school concert tour to the West Coast of the South Island, a school and public concert tour down the lower East Coast of the South Island and a Home Port welcome for HMNZS Aotearoa in New Plymouth. All between Auckland's changes in alert levels and providing people to work in various Managed Isolation Facilities.
Cantare is the premier girls’ choir at Westlake Girls High School and has been directed by the Head of Music Fiona Wilson for 10 years. The choir's accompanist is Cathy Bennett and their vocal consultant is James Harrison. Regular Gold award winners at The Big Sing National Choral Festival, this year Cantare were awarded ‘Best Festival Programme by a Female Choir’ at the Auckland regionals. Cantare enjoys performing at numerous and at a variety of public events each year and has collaborated with many ensembles such as North Shore Brass Band, the Toronto Children's Chorus and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Unfortunately in 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic cancelled Cantare's tour to New York, Boston and Toronto. Two performance highlights for Cantare in 2021 include singing at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on Anzac day and this Armistice Day concert with the New Zealand Royal Navy Band.
The Band and choir are looking forward to seeing you all in the Holy Trinity Cathedral for this very special concert.
