2-day course; 14 hours.
Roll up your sleeves, get inky fingers and meet like-minded people. Join us at The Armarie Room for a hands-on workshop that combines printed image with text.
This workshop introduces both letterpress and relief printing techniques allowing image and text to be combined into works of art.
We will explore various methods to create relief images that can be inked and printed. These include using found materials to create shape and texture as well as experimenting with cutting techniques on linoleum.
We will also use our extensive range of metal and wood type and learn how traditional letterpress techniques can add creative text or font elements to your work.
We have a variety of presses in our printery that can be used to transfer your artwork onto paper. These include our 1860 Albion press, an etching press, platen hand presses and a Chandler and Price treadle press. However we will also teach you how to print without specialised equipment, so you can further explore these printmaking traditions in your home or studio. We will use both hand rolled and machine rolled inking techniques and experiment with colour mixing, ombré and embossing.
Whether you are new to print or looking to refresh your understanding this is a fantastic way to explore a variety of techniques in our purpose-designed studio. Participants learn in a small, friendly group and will take home beautifully printed, original works of art.
