Cutting his teeth with the first intake of contemporary music students at the University of Otago in 2000, Robert Milne has been composing since the age of 15. After a 9 year adventure in the local jazz scene as a vocalist, Robert joined The Mentalist Collective in 2014 where his craft has been honed and accelerated.
With influences including Radiohead, Beck, Iron and Wine and Fleet Foxes, Robert writes simple forms and hooks with subtle complexities, exploring rhythm, vocal harmonies and complex personal themes with often ambiguous lyrics tinged with imagery and laced with nostalgia.
Robert continues to write, record and perform with The Mentalist Collective and explores his more experimental side under the moniker, Autumn Tortoise. He has recently launched his first solo single titled ‘You Should Have Been There’ (Soundcloud/Bandcamp).
