This class explores the beginnings of hot glass sculpting on a small scale using flameworking techniques (also known as lampworking) where glass is melted over an LPG and Oxygen torch.
You will learn how to form flameworked glass components which will be used to construct a flower - that can then be made into a magnet, a pendant or as an ornament on a metal stem. We will explore a bit of colour mixing and also learn how to make textured glass leaves, which can then be hung on a necklace or incorporated into your flower project. The class is suitable for beginners.
In addition, you will learn about safety, tools, equipment, proper lighting and annealing glass for strength and durability. All glass materials, use of equipment, gas, kiln firing, and safety gear is included. As your glass needs to be processed in a kiln afterwards, it can not be taken home on the day. The cost of finishing and posting your glass creations is also included in the fee.
These classes are a private lesson for three hours working at your own pace with glassmaker Jo Tricker. Tuition is conducted in Jo's own 75 sq m studio in the Judea Industrial Estate. Minimum age requirement is 12 years of age - parents are welcome to stay with their child. All glass materials, gas, kiln firing and safety gear is included.
