Rediscover the night sky from our dark sky site in Wairarapa. We are set well away from sources of light pollution, half way between Martinborough and Carterton.
Please check the directions here so you know where to go: https://star-safari.nz/contact/
PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINUTES BEFORE START AND NO LATER THAN THE START TIME.
- Just like any serious observatory, we are located on top of a hill, and it takes a few minutes to get there from the road.
- We don't use GOTO telescopes because we already know our way around the night sky.
- We have more than 20 years experience stargazing and teaching about the night sky.
- We also have very large telescopes and exceptional eyepieces which create a truly immersive experience for you.
Regular hours - weekends (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays) and most public holidays. We made the decision to not open on Matariki because we don't want to commercialise the holiday.

WHAT WE DO
Stargazing. Big Telescopes. Space Shop. Astrophotography. Space Science Communication. Virtual Night Sky Tours.
WHAT IF IT IS CLOUDY OR RAINING?
Sometimes it is cloudy and while we'll do our best to find stunning things to look at in the gaps of the clouds occasionally it is fully cloudy or even raining. When that happens Star-Safari will still run as we have planetarium software that we can show what the night sky looks like and explore the universe. We also have augmented reality displays of the solar system and you'll get a chance to look at some big telescopes. If it raining too much then we will have to cancel and we will give you the option of rescheduling or a refund.
We look forward to hosting you for Star-Safari.
