  • Loom-Weave a Wall Hanging with Christine Brimer: $230.00

Class Name: Loom-Weave a Wall Hanging or Fabric Sampler
Tutor: Christine Brimer (Niche Textile Studio)
1 Workshop, the same over 2 Separate classes.

Class Size: 6 (max number of students)
Christine designs and weaves with the natural hues of New Zealand wool for contemporary interiors in her Lyall Bay studio. . She is interested in exploring surface and form to articulate themes of belonging and our connection to the natural world. Christine has been weaving and tutoring since graduating with a BDes (Textiles) from Massey University’s College of Creative Arts in 2014. Her tutoring goal is to help people understand how woven cloth is made, and to experience weaving as a rich historical and contemporary craft that involves their head, heart and hands.

Class Description
In this one-day workshop (two separate days) you will be guided to weave your own piece of cloth on a vintage 4 shaft table loom. After learning essential skills for weaving with wool you will compose a personalised piece of cloth from a selection of weave structures and a palette of New Zealand wool yarns, including yarn dyed with plant extracts. During refreshment breaks we will have conversations about how looms work to create a variety of other weave structures commonly seen in woven cloth. You will leave with a finished wall hanging, or cloth to take home to construct a table runner, zipper purse or cushion cover.

Double vaccination (I need to demonstrate and share equipment at close range!)

What materials will be needed?
All yarns supplied but participants can bring their own yarns to incorporate into their work (‘double knit’ weight yarns work best, small amounts go a long way). Wear comfortable clothes. Bring a packed lunch and water bottle.
