Relax in the ngahere at Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre this long weekend.
Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre is a not-for-profit charity managing an unfenced breeding sanctuary for native wildlife.
Our 942-hectare forest is home to wild birds. Inside our aviaries we hatch kiwi, kākā and kākāriki for release across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Visit Kahurangi the kōkako, the only one of her kind in captivity in the world. Then check out the kiwi nursery, where we raise kiwi chicks for release.
Watch Kai whakairo (carvers) in action at the whare whakairo (carving studio) located just off the carpark.
Experience nature in harmony.
We call this rongo te mauri – feeling life’s essence.
