This year Culley’s Smoke & Spice Festival remains committed to showcasing the very best in BBQ-ing! From cuts to condiments; slow-cooked, smoked or charred – whatever the preference, its welcome here.

We bring New Zealand’s best chefs, artisans, distillers, brewers and BBQ masters together to share insights and innovation and incredible food. Expect Masterclasses from top BBQ and butcher cooking heroes (Noel "BBQ Jesus” Hassapladakis & The Tattooed Butcher), competitions, live music, award-winning street food, the best must-have BBQ-equipment demonstrations, and our own Craft Beer ‘Fermentation Tent’.

Get ready for summer with a BBQ Masterclass by Berkie's BBQ! Build your confidence, learn how to grill over charcoal on the ever popular Weber BBQ. Learn fundamental BBQ techniques, temperature control and the best methods for grilling Buffalo Wings, Sausages and Tomahawk Steaks. This is an interactive 2 hour session - you'll leave ready to wow your friends and family this summer!

Our very own BBQ Jesus a.k.a Noel Hassapladakis from the Meat Mafia Collective, one of NZ’s masters of Low and Slow has paired up with the Master of Butchery, better known as the Tattooed Butcher James Smith. Together they combine their expertise to provide a nose to tail masterclass. James will share tips for knife sharpening, butcher knots and much more, and Noel will take you through low ’n’ slow barbecue secrets. This 4 hour class covering multiple proteins from trimming, cooking, and of course class attendees will be eating what is cooked. Don’t have breakfast is our advice! There will also be lots of opportunity to troubleshoot your own cooks on the pits you use at home. This is a serious opportunity to up your BBQ game!
