Atali’i O Le CREZENT (Sons of the CREZENT) by Villa Junior Lemanu
This dance-theatre work is a coming-of-age piece that delves into the world of gentrification and the loss of community/tribe. It is centred around fears of seeing family leave the house that Villa grew up in and the community we've been a part of for around 25 years. It touches on the love and support of growing up in a low socio-economic, Polynesian society and the fear of seeing everyone "forced out".
XY ONLY by Raisedinland Iose
The concept looks at the strength of a woman and how far it can be pushed mentally and physically. Raisedinland also looks to test the rules surrounding what a female can and cannot do within the Samoan community, using Samoan culture as the platform that will be challenged.
Raisedinland draws movement from the traditional fa’ataupati (For men) and the Soga’i miti (only warn by men), and, challenges his chorus to speak, which in a formal setting, XY only (Men Only) speak within the Samoan society.
