Feel the power – we’re back on track with thunder and lightning!
Fast cars, great drivers, packed grids, action-packed racing, a challenging track and an awesome venue. That's what you can look forward to when we fire up the engines and get our next season underway at the fabulous Hampton Downs Motorsport Park over the weekend of November 12-14.
Parking is free and kids 14 and under go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Hampton Downs is easy to get to and as with all Speed Works Events motorsport meetings, there are cars to suit all tastes.
It's bigger and better than ever before and us lucky Kiwis get to enjoy it all free of the restrictions of motorsport going on elsewhere in the world. You can walk around the paddock and get close up to some of the fastest cars in the country and chat to some of the best drivers. Get a selfie with either or both and settle down to the very best circuit racing in the country as the 2021-2022 championship season gets underway.
For outright spectacle there's simply nothing better than a capacity grid of wild NAPA Central Muscle Cars. For years this has been one of the best muscle car fields in world motorsport and this year there's even more fire breathing, tarmac tearing horsepower monsters, all based on some of the most iconic muscle cars. Mustangs, Camaros, Commodores, TransAms, Firebirds, Toranas and more besides. They're all there and most are punching out 600 horsepower plus. With four races over the weekend there's also plenty of track time and exciting race formats where winners are only decided on the last lap and sometimes on the last corner!
The biggest ever Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship will also be a big feature of the weekend as 23 drivers get their challenges underway in what is New Zealand's top national championship saloon car category. There's a lot at stake this year for the drivers - there's a V8 Supercar test with the mighty Triple Eight Race Engineering team in Australia up for grabs and that's brought in the best field of drivers we've ever seen in the category. Last season the title could have gone to any one of three drivers going into the last race of the season. It'll be even more competitive this time around... Evans, Murphy, Shepherd, Herbert, Giltrap and more. The big names are there and they'll have the very best young racing talent in the country to contend with in the race for the title. It all starts here.
For single seater fans look no further the Hi-Q Q Components Formula First Championship - the category that gave us Scott Dixon, Liam Lawson, Shane van Gisbergen - is back and also brimmed with talent. Four or five wide into turn one at Hampton Downs..? No problem for these super talented racers.
It all adds up to an absolutely unmissable mega weekend of earth shaking action that will get everyone in the family revved up for more.
