Our centre is the hub of a thriving, friendly community of practising Buddhists.
Our aim is help the people of Wellington lead happier, more fulfilled lives by introducing them to the teachings and practices of Buddhism in a way relevant to the modern world.
We are part of the Triratna Buddhist Community, a worldwide Buddhist movement with centres in over 20 countries. Wellington Buddhist Centre is the hub of a friendly community of practising Buddhists, housed in spacious rooms in the heart of Wellington. The Centre is run by members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, who teach and practise a non-sectarian style of Buddhism, suitable for people living in the contemporary Western world.
We run regular classes for newcomers to Buddhism and meditation, as well as some day and weekend retreats. We also have a programme of other classes, events, retreats, festivals and study seminars for those with more experience.
The Centre is 6-8 Broomhedge Street, Mt Cook, two minutes walk from the Basin Reserve.
The Nos. 1, 23e, 23z, 29 and 29e buses stop at the entrance to Broomhedge Street. The No. 3 stops outside the Countdown supermarket, 6 minutes walk away.
Where To Park
If you're coming in the evening or on a weekend, there is plenty of parking outside the centre (you can ignore the private parking signs as the other tenants only use the spaces during work hours).
During the day, parking is more limited. Some coupon parking is available in Adelaide Road and Kings Street, and more a 5-10 minutes walk away in Kent and Cambridge Terraces.
The Centre is on level one. There is a lift available. Please contact us if you need to use it. ere is ample free parking nearby in the evenings and at weekends.
Funded by Generosity
We don't think Buddhism should be profited from. As such, all of our classes are run entirely on a donation basis.
We don't have any set charges and simply ask you to give what you can. The volunteers that run the centre give their time, energy and knowledge freely so that as many people as possible can benefit.
