The Royal New Zealand Ballet is presenting shows for school-aged children and their families. Tāne and the Kiwi tells the story of the kind kiwi who gave up the chance to soar among the tree-tops but looked after the roots of the trees instead, ensuring that the forest would flourish for everyone to enjoy. The story in each show is narrated by Gareth Tiopira-Waaka.

Experience the story of the much-loved bird with the smallest wings and the biggest heart, retold in music and dance.

Based on the story How the Kiwi lost its wings by Alwyn Owen, with music by Thomas Goss, Tāne and the Kiwi, was commissioned by the APO in 2002.

The story in each show is narrated. There will be a show narrated in te reo Māori and one with New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). There will also be one *relaxed performance, catering for neurodiverse audiences of all ages.

The aim is to minimize patrons’ anxiety and to ensure they have a safe and enjoyable theatre visit.
