The July edition of the Dunedin Jazz Club features the sounds of Wellington based guitarist and composer Nick Granville, who travels from Wellington with long term bandmate (and Dunedin son) Michael Crawford for a special one-off performance with local drummer Carl Woodward. The “Nick Granville Trio” will thrill the local audience with this particular combination of guitar, jazz organ and drums - known in the industry as an “organ trio” - an electrified ensemble sound developed in the 1960s by guitarists such as Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, George Benson and Wes Montgomery. The opening section will feature Granville as a lead player and soloist before expanding the ensemble to include guest player Bill Martin on the tenor saxophone.

Granville is a professional guitarist/composer based in Wellington, New Zealand who possesses an impressive palette of diverse sounds across a wide range of styles. He performs in a jazz style infused with dynamic funk, exploring a range of repertoire including jazz, blues and his original compositions. Nick leads his own groups which play regularly around Wellington, and at the major jazz festivals in NZ and abroad. Nick has released six CDs as a band leader and has played on many recordings, film scores, television and radio programs. Nick has performed around the world including with Dave Weckl, Mike Stern, Joey Defrancesco, Patti Austin, Ronan Keating, Delta Goodrem, Kurt Elling, Chris DeBurgh, The Sounds of the Supremes, The Rodger Fox Big Band, Dave Dobbyn, The NZSO, and as the guitarist for the hit TV show Dancing with the Stars to name but a few. This is a gig not to be missed.

Nick Granville has a considerable online profile and presence due to his pioneering work as a guitarist and educator. His Youtube channel has nearly 10,000 followers and this is due to the high quality lessons, gear demos, tutorials and performances that he posts on a regular basis. Granville’s profile as a widely respected guitar expert is built on the basis of his reputation as a jazz performer, educator and recording artist. He is a founding member of the Wellington Jazz Orchestra; aka the Rodger Fox Big Band. Nick is a former teacher at the New Zealand School of Music but has also taught at the Goodtime Music Academy, Musicworks retail stores, Christchurch Jazz School (CPIT), Otago University, Auckland University and at jazz festivals all around NZ. Nick has performed around the world and recorded in the best studios including Kronos Recording, Capitol recording studio A in Los Angeles and United Studios.
