Discover how to use recycled Tetrapak cartons to create your own dry-point intaglio prints.

Led by Lauren Drescher, the workshop we will cover all the steps necessary from preparation of the empty carton to the transfer of images, drawing, inking, and putting through the etching press.

On the way, you’ll explore various types of mark making, employing both line and tone to achieve dry-point etchings. We’ll also explore possibilities of creating drypoint prints at home without an etching press using non-toxic materials.

By the end of the workshop you’ll have completed their own drypoint intaglio print and have your own small print edition and etching plate to take home with you.

Don’t miss out - only 10 spaces available! All levels welcome. Age: 16 +

What to bring:
• An apron or old shirt as you’ll be working with oil-based inks.
• A few small sketches or images you would like to use to trace onto the plate.
• If you have any empty, clean Tetrapak cartons feel free to bring them along.
• All other materials provided.

About the tutor:

Lauren Drescher lives and works in Auckland. A frequent traveller, she has adapted her printmaking practice to fit into a suitcase. Size and weight restrictions influence her choice of materials and inspire her to seek alternative means. Recycled materials can lead to the evolution of new practices such as Tetra Pak printmaking. Drescher attended Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. She has a printmaking degree from Central St. Martins in London. Currently on view; Still Life, Wild Places, at the Katherine Mansfield House, Wellington, until the 31st of October 2021.

She is delighted to be assisted on this occasion by daughter, Sofia Drescher, who is an artist, illustrator, printmaker, and arts educator currently based in Gisborne. Sofia graduated from Chelsea College of Art and holds a master’s degree in Illustration from the Royal College in London. Her work has been exhibited internationally.
