Greg and Trish Thomson had a farming background, but when farming got tough in the 1980s they bought a portable sawmill and started contract milling in the Raglan area.
Greg loved working with wood and as the business expanded they bought a yard at Whatawhata in 1989 to have a base closer to Hamilton. Once they had the yard at Whatawhata their sawmilling operation ceased and they bought from wholesale mills.
In 1991 they started manufacturing frames and trusses and moving into the building supplies market. In 1996 they purchased the Crofts yard on Norton Road in Hamilton and have never looked back. In 2004 they shifted to a much larger yard on Norton Road.
The Hamilton operation was moved to a purpose built facility on Crawford Road in January 2007 and this location has given the branch a new presence in the Hamilton market.
