Experience working alongside Ngā Hinepūkōrero in their public workshop focusing on growing writing skills and individual confidence for performing.

A safe space for sharing is created through whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga, as well as exercises that help with wordbanking and the use of metaphors and similes.

A variety of poems will be shared and the end result will be a creation of your very own poem that you can share to the rest of the group or take home and work on.

Once you learn these skills you can then keep using them to write more poems and share thoughts, feelings and experiences in a fun and creative way.

Following the workshop there will be a half-hour performance by Ngā Hinepūkōrero at 2pm.

Ngā Hinepūkōrero are four wāhine Māori who have been winning Grand Slam events across Australasia since 2018. They use the spoken word as a platform to bring attention to important topics and issues in our country, especially those that affect Māori, intertwining waiata and te reo Māori in their work to express their love for whakapapa and culture. Their poetry is witty, intelligent, profound and hard hitting,

Ngā Hinepūkōrero – Arihia Hall (Te Arawa, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngāti Tukorehe), Terina Wichman-Evans (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whātua, Te Aupouri), Manaia Tuwhare-Hoani (Ngāti Wai Ngāpuhi) and Matariki Bennett (Te Arawa) recently received the Ngā Manu Pīrere award which recognises an emerging artist or collective showing potential in their artform at Creative NZ's Te Waka Toi Awards.
