The summer holidays are on their way and with Christmas looming what better way to celebrate than a day at the races at our most iconic and demanding race track?

Round 2 of the Speed Works Events Motorsport Championship heads to Pukekohe Park, scene of some of the most memorable moments in New Zealand auto racing history and there's a massive two days of action for race fans to enjoy over the weekend of December 4 and 5. It'll be perfect as a family day out or even a day out for staff, they've been through a lot these past few weeks and months!

Topping the bill will be the NAPA Central Muscle Cars at the best place in New Zealand to see and hear these monsters of motorsport. These amazing machines are packing anywhere between 500 and 800 horsepower, with NASCAR specification engines and big sticky slick tyres packed into every type of classic muscle car you can imagine. Fire breathing, tarmac shredding and action packed from the very first corner to the last - with four races and handicap style racing - the excitement just builds and builds until the chequered flag.

Once you have your breath back from those you can enjoy a field of 20 plus of the very best saloon car drivers in the country do battle for honours in the second round of the Toyota 86 Championship. Champions of the past, present and future will all line up for three thrillers over the weekend - one on Saturday and two on Sunday. With the prize package to the winner including a test with Triple 8 Race Engineering in one of their V8 Supercars, the stakes are high in this top championship category.

For the Ford vs Holden fans look no further than the evergreen RYCO 24•7 V8 Utes where multiple champ Paul Manuell - who has more than two decades of experience racing in New Zealand's top categories - is defending his championship title. The big V8utes are a handful around the twists and turns of Pukekohe, but their 400 horsepower engines really give them the get up and go on the straight sections. With 1800kg to control at those breathtaking speeds, the drivers are full on from the start of the race to the finish. Also packing a V8 punch will be the New Zealand V8 Touring Car series, with its very entertaining rolling start qualifying races and Sunday feature race that includes a pit stop.

In its first Speed Works Events meeting of the new season, the TradeZone GTRNZ grids are back and they should once again provide intense racing and immense variety. The GT1 and GT2 grid will almost certainly provide the fastest racing of the Pukekohe weekend, including as it does some state of the art GT machinery, prototypes and limitless home built racers. GT3 and GT4 has grown dramatically over the past two seasons and you'll see everything in there from motorcycle engined cars to V8s and everything in between.

The NEXEN Tyre Mazda Racing Series and the MOTUL Honda Cup provide a contrast of JDM race categories. The rotary powered Mazdas are all designed to a specific set of rules and as such the cars are very closely matched and the racing door-to-door. For the Honda boys and girls, it's all about extracting the most they can from iconic models like the Civic and Integra and engines like the B and K series.

For th single seater fans, and last but by no stretch of the imagination least, the Hi-Q Components Formula First is simply unmissable at this circuit. At the last meeting the three races were all decided on the drag race to the line after an entire race of drafting, slipstreaming and passing. There's too much going on to take it all in, but it's awesome!

Throw in a Rush hour mini endurance race and dawn until dusk action where kids 14 and under go free when accompanied by a paying adult, and all the ingredients are there for a breathless and intense weekend of motorsport. We'll see you there!
