Growing native plants for Nelson gardens.
Nikau Gardens Native Plant Nursery started in Nelson in 1982 when Hugh Griffin and Mike Crawford joined forces to start a landscaping business. Mike and Hugh soon found they had to grow a lot of their own native plants as there was little available commercially. Eventually, the native plant nursery took over from the landscaping business and in 1988 Nikau Gardens Native Plant Nursery began trading in earnest. Today Hugh owns and manages the nursery. Mike is now involved in Project Janzoon, re-foresting large areas of the Abel Tasman National Park.
