Palmy is proud to be the first city in New Zealand to host the Better Cities Film Festival – a collection of short films from around the globe focused on making better cities, towns and neighbourhoods. This "Best of the Fest" will showcase the most acclaimed and award-winning films from the 2020 Better Cities Film Festival, held at the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi.
This collection of short films will shine a light on issues and challenges facing cities around the world, and how creative city making practices can begin to address and overcome these.
Expect to be entertained, informed, enlightened and inspired. You will be transported to various places around the globe. From Edinburgh where a group of artists, musicians and volunteers envision and build a 100 seat Amphitheatre made entirely from recycled pianos to Cincinnati to observe the impacts of gentrification on an existing family’s sense of place, identity and financial survival.
Creative City Conversations is a programme of free public events where stories and ideas on creative city-making are shared to raise a higher level of civic awareness, critical thinking and debate on the future of Palmerston North.
