What if life drawing could be different? What if you weren’t intimidated by copying the human form in an academic way but rather were challenged to work from a place of mindfulness focusing on energy, rhythms, masculine, and feminine marks. Ralph Hotere studied under British artist Cecil Collins whose teaching methods focus on creative spontaneity and free expression encouraging students to connect with the energy of the subject in a non-analytical way. It’s not about copying the form (life model) but rather connecting with the energy of it.
This is a class asks you to be mindful and present. It’s both challenging and freeing if you are open to it.
This course follows Cecil’s teaching techniques as I was taught by one if his students while living in London. We will use media often associated with Chinese brushwork, employing both hands, the mouth and the foot and often working at speed to eliminate the tendency to anticipate the outcome.
Materials can be purchased in class. Please get in touch for more information about what to bring.
We will run 2 workshops. Each one is listed as a separate event.
