NZ Barok is a chamber orchestra that specialises in performing 17th and 18th century European instrumental music - music of the baroque (1600-1750) and classical (1750-1800) periods on instruments of the time. The most famous composers of these periods of music history include Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Boccherini, Mozart, and Haydn.
Formed in 2004 by cellist Helen Brinkman and violinist
Graham McPhail, NZ Barok is unique in that it is the only New Zealand orchestra regularly performing on original instruments. The principal players studied historical performance practice in Holland, hence the adoption of the Dutch spelling of baroque - 'barok'.
We invite you to come and discover the sumptuous sounds of baroque music performed by NZ Barok.
"Brimming with vitality, supreme accuracy and a sound that would do justice to any of the authentic groups from Europe"
