It's not easy being a parent, and it's even tougher when your teenager is feeling anxious or depressed. We all want our teenagers and adolescents to be happy and enjoying life, but today more than 25% of teenagers (YouthNZ) suffer from significant anxiety or depression. It affects their education, their relationships with others, and their health. It may even threaten their life.

We all know that the health system is stretched to the point of breaking. For most, it is the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. Psychologists and talk therapists are in short supply. Anti-depressants are being dished out at unprecedented levels; without parents or teenagers rarely understanding their side-effects or the alternatives.

So, what can you do? 

If you want to help your teenager in the best way possible, the first step is to get educated. To help you, we've invited two special guests who work extensively with anxiety and depression in teenagers and adolescents. One is a mental health nurse, naturopath and herbalist; and the other is a psychotherapist specialising in anxiety and depression in teenagers. By the end of their 90 minute webinar you will know:

- the signs and symptoms to watch for, and pay attention to
- the steps you can take to improve the mental health of your teenager at home and school
- when is the right time to seek external assistance, and the options and resources available

Meet The Presenters:

Karen Pearson - Mental Health Nurse | Naturopath | Herbalist

Karen is a Registered Nurse with extensive experience in Mental Health. She's also a Naturopath, Herbalist, Reiki Practitioner, and counsellor. In her previous role Karen was tasked with educating orthodox medical practitioners on how to use lifestyle and nutrition to prevent and treat depression. She brings an immensely valuable perspective to the discussion having worked with mental health both in mainstream medicine, and as a natural health practitioner.

Joanne Bruce - Psychotherapist Specialising In Helping Adolescent

Joanne owns the Family Matters practice in Tauranga, New Zealand. Family Matters provides a psychotherapist service for children, teenagers and their families. She graduated from the University of Otago in 1997, and is a full member of New Zealand Association of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists (NZACAP), and a registered member of Psychotherapy Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (PBANZ). She's been working with children and adolescents since 1997.
