5 pm: Compost, Worm Farm and Bokashi workshop

Māoriland invites you to learn about a variety of composting options including worm farming and bokashi processes so that you can figure out what will work best for you. Plant-based waste can be part of a circular economy, where things are a part of a closed-loop life-cycle, continuing to support life. Join us in creating a circular economy, keep what you use in the circle of life. Even if you are not a gardener you can learn how to divert your waste to our compost processes and we will develop soil to grow kai for our community.

6 pm: Enjoy a delicious veggie curry provided by Māoriland

6:30 pm: Film screening: Just Eat It – A food waste story

Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping cold turkey and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. In a nation where one in 10 people is food insecure, the images they capture of squandered groceries are both shocking and strangely compelling. But as Grant’s addictive personality turns full tilt towards food rescue, the ‘thrill of the find’ has unexpected consequences.
