This enduring story was immortalised in Peter Jackson’s 1994 Film, Heavenly Creatures. On 22nd June 1954, Christchurch played host to one of the nations most talked about crimes, when Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme murdered Honorah Rieper at Victoria Park on The Port Hills. Michelanne Forster’s stage adaptation premiered at The Court Theatre in 1991. While the film finishes almost immediately after the crime is committed, the play carries on to explore the subsequent trial, incarceration and release of the girls.
