Auckland Live’s bespoke one-hour tours of The Civic are back! Journey with us through this iconic landmark on a tour packed full of anecdotes, facts, and stories from behind the scenes. Experience the building while the curtain is down and get exclusive access to some of its most admired spaces.
Our knowledgeable tour guide shares this atmospheric theatre’s fascinating history, from its inception and design in the 1920s, its scandalous war years, its decline during the 60s and 70s, and its triumphant restoration and status as one of Auckland’s architectural treasures.
This is an exciting opportunity to see The Civic like never before, visit areas off-limits to the public, capture unique photographs, and discover all the secrets that bring this amazing venue to life.
At the end of the tour, enjoy a complimentary barista-made coffee, a cup of tea or juice, or soft drink at The Civic’s Stark’s Café and Bar, where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere.

A good level of mobility required
On The Civic Tour, you will climb around 300 steps as you move throughout foyers and spaces. While there are railings and a number of rests throughout the tour when the guide shares our stories, you will not have the opportunity to sit for any long period of time during the tour.
Please meet in the front foyer of The Civic – 15 minutes prior to the tour e.g. if the tour starts at 10 am, please arrive at 9.45 am.
Due to the limited capacity of 16 people per tour, all patrons must have a ticket. This small group size means you have plenty of time to ask questions to your guide, take photographs, and get the best views.
