Create your own Mini Marama Moon pendant out of beef bone with our knowledgeable new tutor, Maha Tomo. This tikanga based beginner’s workshop will introduce you to various carving and design techniques. Learn how to use files, drills and polishing tools. Participants will complete their pendant using traditional lashing and binding techniques found in Maori object art. All material included

Maramatanga means enlightenment, insight, understanding, light, these contemporary designs inspired by the marama (moon) represent an indigenous cyclical worldview of intergenerational connections between ancestors and descendants. Some Polynesian ancestors believed that as we move forward in time we are actually returning back to our ancestors.
