It's a pleasure to announce Kirsty Harkness as the first speaker of the 2020 Blenheim Entrepreneur Socials.
The Auckland photographer swaps her city heels for muddy boots every 2nd week. In Auckland, she's known as a photographer, in Marlborough as an innovative grape and now hemp grower.
Kirsty is researching industrial hemp as a vineyard cover crop. She is one year into a four-year trial using hemp in her Marlborough vineyards. She has a licence to sell the hemp seed as a food product. (The Real Review).
“It is an exciting seed as it has Omega 3,6 & 9 (better than fish oil) and it’s high in protein. Similar to the protein amounts in beef & sheep,” Kirsty says.
Coming from the small town of Te Puke originally, Kirsty Harkness started her career as a Kidney Transplant speciality nurse. But being a natural entrepreneur, she has shifted and changed many times since.
She launched herself into business in 2005 by founding successful photography agency TIGERTIGER, followed closely in 2007 by co-founding Mount Base Vineyards, a 68ha vineyard in the beautiful Waihopai Valley where she is a proud grower for Villa Maria, Matua and Babich Wines.
Over the years she has grown both businesses, bought and sold a construction business, is now a 150-acre licenced hemp grower and has recently co-founded Hark & Zander, a natural skincare company using hemp oils.
In her spare time, she is on the Board of NZ Hemp Industries, Wine Marlborough, Women in Wine Marlborough, and chairs the NZ Hemp Media working group.
Kirsty likes to encourage others by sharing what she has learnt on the journey so far. We hope you will feel inspired, encouraged, motivated and happy to learn from her mistakes.
We hope you can join us.
