Enjoy a rare opportunity to see a unique slice of Aotearoa New Zealand history in an area never before opened up to the public. On the slopes of Titiraupenga mountain are trees that stood before the first Maori waka reached our shores.
Here, sheltered by our taonga, Mount Titiraupenga, we offer you the opportunity to see just such a place. Experience an ecological time capsule in the hands of your guide who will share his deep knowledge of this sacred area. You will see, not one forest giant - majestic as that is - but many. Not one species of large tree, but many.
So who are we? History calls us the Pouakani people. We are the tribal landowners of this very special mountain in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. Over the centuries it has been both our privilege and duty to guard and care for this land against intruders.
So welcome and haere mai, we would be honoured to share this magical and healing place with you.
