Martinborough Rugby Football Club has been in operation for a very long time. Established in 1904, the club has celebrated many successes, one being the centenary in 2004.
The club has a proud history and a strong presence in the Wairarapa, especially in the 1980s and 1990s.
The club has over the years had a selection of teams ranging from Senior As, Senior Thirds, Under 20s and a Womens team. After having a large number of children playing rugby in the 1990s, the numbers of our JAB teams dropped away.
In the last two years we have gone from having 20-30 children playing to 100 children join our JAB teams. The numbers look set to rise in the coming season.
Our Senior A team this year was very successful, going into the semi-finals for the championship.
Unfortunately, the guys lost to Carterton but are gearing up for another shot next year to take out the competition in 2012.
A huge thank you to our main sponsors this year: Settlers Bar, Pukemanu Tavern, Wayne Johnson, AR Donaldson, Mitre 10 Martinborough, Activefitness, and Martinborough Transport.
Also, a huge thank you to our management and coaching team for leading our boys so close to victory.
Our club would not have been as successful as it has been without the help from all the volunteers and supporters who give up their time on a Saturday to cheer the JAB kids on and to support the players at the senior level, all the sponsors who have supported us through donations and goods, and the members of the Martinborough Rugby Football Club who give up their time and energy to ensure the success of the club.
We also have a fully functioning gymnasium which is open to the public to join. It is now in full swing after one year of operation, with approximately 150 members, and new members joining daily.
