Aurora College opened as a co-educational Year 7 to 13 school in 2005 so that the adolescents and young adults of South Invercargill could access a high quality secondary education in their local environment. Therefore, Aurora College aims to be the school of choice for the young people in its neighbourhood and a central focus of its community. We have no desire to become a large school, instead we want to be a very good smaller school in which all students get the chance to be known and to shine in their own unique way.
Aurora College's philosophy is based upon the establishment and maintenance of strong, positive relationships between its students, staff and community. Research shows that constructive relationships between students and staff are vital for success. When employing staff a special emphasis is placed upon their ability to form such relationships with our students, their parents/caregivers, and one another.
