It's the month of May and NZ Music 2018 is underway! Whether you're a fan of country, bass music, indie-rock, pop or any other genre, there's a massive lineup of shows that'll be perfect for you. With this year's theme 'Discover New', this 31-day celebration intends to search for fresh tracks and artists who have just entered the music scene.
Firmly entrenched to NZ's cultural landscape, the month of May each year has gone from a period of encouraging radios to play more local tunes, to a month-long festival of homegrown talents across the length and breadth of the country.
Today, music from New Zealand is being discovered across the land of the long white cloud, Aotearoa. A diverse range of NZ artists are being heard on stages, sites and screens across the globe. Arenas are being dominated by all-time musos who are conquering the world while doors are being opened to up-and-coming acts who are playing their first live gigs.
"Our local music scene is producing world class songwriting and live shows. NZ Music Month is a great chance to discover the next big thing at home before the rest of the world does. By going to live shows, supporting venues, buying the artists' merch and adding their tunes to your playlists, you can become an active supporter of cool new music. And most importantly, don't forget to share your discoveries on your socials!" - Rodney Fisher, NZ Music Month Event Coordinator
media of all kinds gearing up to get behind NZ Music Month, you won't be able to miss it.
Radio stations–big, small or independent–are gearing up for this year's music promotions. The NZ Music Month team will be sharing as much as possible across social channels, so remember to tag #NZMM so as to easily spread the word.
Whether it's a set of freshly released tracks by a legendary act, or an artist who has just put his or her first song online, there's no shortage of new music being produced across the nation.
