Gasp in awe and wonder as New York's circus spectacle 'Air Play' glides to NZ roads for the first time ever! Defying gravity in a theatrical extravaganza, the tour will be hitting Dunedin, New Plymouth, Tauranga and Auckland stages this September to Otober.
Air Play is an epic show that brings life to the air that we breathe, flawlessly merging circus and theatre with sculptural artistry, creating a world of joyous wonder and beauty. It's a circus-style adventure that's played to thousands of spectators across the globe, astonishing adults and children alike. Since its world premiere in 2015, it has become a totally enchanting encounter for kids and a perfect reset experience for world-weary adults.
Described as a visual poem, Air Play is a fun feast for the eyes that transcends cultures, leaps over borders and has delighted audiences everywhere from Chile to China, Portugal to the Netherlands. Gasp and giggle as balloons dance in the wind, confetti turns into the night sky, and an enormous canopy of hovering silk flies above your head, literally playing with the air.
Air Play offers a hybrid of entertainment styles: part comedy, sculpture, circus, and theatre. It's a story about two siblings exploring the unknown, making the ordinary extraordinary and transforming domestic objects into images that'll satisfy their curiosity.
Air Play is created by husband and wife 'Acrobuffos' (Seth & Christina) in association with Aurora Nova and Boat Rocker Entertainment. Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone merge their unique circus and street theatre skills in Air Play with the sculptural artistry of collaborator Daniel Wurtzel.
First meeting at a circus in Afghanistan, Bloom and Gelsone became engaged whilst performing in Scotland, and married in China. They've created five shows, juggled on 'The Late Show with David Letterman', headlined at the 'Big Apple Circus' and performed in over 23 countries together.
Brooklyn-based kinetic sculptor Daniel Wurtzel has carved a significant career internationally, creating work with 'Cirque du Soleil', Julie Taymor, Robert Lepage and for the 'Sochi Winter Olympics'.
Prepare for Air Play's flying umbrellas and larger-than-life balloons that'll float over your heads and will definitely blow your minds this September and October.
