It’s time for another Saturday Stand-up Showcase! Whether you’re a seasoned comedy fan or a first time viewer this show is a great way to spend your Saturday night! This showcase features 4 fantastic comedians performing their best stuff for you in a friendly, welcoming venue located in the heart of the Christchurch CBD.
This month we are testing out a new format with less comedians doing more time, allowing you to really get to know them over the course of their performance.
Our MC for the evening will be Liv Bensberg, also known as The Redneck of Rolleston, The Proud and Loud Mouth of the South, The Americans American. She’s afraid and depressed, and just f*cked up enough to be funny and not sad. She brings a fantastic energy and enthusiasm to the role of MC and we are very excited to have her perform for us.
Our first opening act will be Matt Threadwell, a regular in the Christchurch Comedy Scene, Matt somehow manages to masterfully dance the razors edge; being witty, charming and well informed whilst maintaining a childlike sense of wonder and imagination about the world. Coupled with an insane work ethic, Matt is one to watch!
The second opening act will be Taylor Ruddle, another regular face in the Christchurch scene, Taylor performs a mix of storytelling, puns and one liners. Taylor’s comedic style has been described as “Disarmingly laid-back with a twinkle in his eye disguising a sharply honed wit.” If you like clever jokes, pop culture and laughing at someone else’s misfortune, you’ll love Taylor Ruddle.
Our Headliner will be Jonathan Falconer, Jonathan Falconer has been performing comedy regularly since 2013, starting out in Salt Lake City, Utah, then New York City, and finally Dunedin, New Zealand. While in America he completed a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry to help advance his comedy career, before moving to New Zealand to make it big. He has featured on shows across the United States from California to New York City and internationally in Germany and Australia. He has opened for prominent comedians including Dan Cummins, Shane Mauss, Sean Rouse, and Urzila Carlson. Jonathan has a sharp wit and a bright smile that makes it easy to laugh at depressing subjects. He has performed at the Idaho Laugh Fest, Golden Spike Comedy Festival, and the Dunedin Fringe Festival. In 2015, he was runner up for the Best Comedian in Utah Award by City Weekly. Since moving to New Zealand he's been described by peers as "easily one of best comedians in the village of NZ."
