Handel’s Messiah returns to ring in the Christmas Season. A joyful end-of-year classic for three centuries, Messiah combines soloists, choir and orchestra in a dramatic celebration in music and song.
Following in NZSO’s recent tradition of inviting different conductors to conduct this perennial classic, Thomas Blunt takes the podium to present his distinctive interpretation of Messiah. British conductor Blunt has been Chorus Master at Glyndebourne and First Kapellmeister at Konzert Theater Bern and has also enjoyed highly successful engagements with Welsh National Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de Sao Paulo, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is joined by soprano Anna Leese, mezzo-soprano Fiona Campbell, tenor Frederick Jones and bass James Clayton, a cast drawn from the top tier of Australasian opera stars, ably supported by The Tudor Consort.
