Whether you are a new actor looking to start good habits early or a working professional looking for a means of staying in good artistic shape, this course is for you.

You can sign up for any term, but each session builds upon the previous one.

Term 3 explores the classics in depth, including Shakespeare, Brecht, Pinter and Mamet. You’ll learn comedy and tragedy and how to place your performance in terms of tone, scale, and timing. You’ll also learn body techniques and sensory work. With an emphasis on character development, you’ll work with architypes and how these characters can transcend into almost all roles you will play.

Term Four is a culmination of all of the new skills learnt and how they can work for improvisation. You will perform rehearsed texts, film a screen test, and improvise to an audience as your final goal.

Teaching artist Kalyani Nagarajan is a graduate of Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School. She has been acting from a young age and studied Mask, Moliere and Melodrama at Ecole Phillipe Gaulier in France. She has been a part of workshops with clown Dr Brown and has a passion for comedy. She has worked with Indian Ink and has practiced Bharatha Natyam (Indian classical dance) for many years.

Tessa Livingston works with actors and performers to help them find their authentic voices and develop a well-rounded voice. Following the works of renowned vocal coach Patsy Rodenburg, and her own experience as a speech language pathologist, she teaches actors how to free their voices and bodies, extend their range, increase articulation muscularity, and deepen resonance.

Tessa has a Bachelor of Honours in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Canterbury. She has also trained through The Actor's Program and The Voice Lab. She has worked for Shine School of Confidence, Goya Productions and Voice Culture.
