Welcome to the Timaru Festival of Roses - the annual festival held to celebrate the arrival of summer and our city's close affinity with the rose. The Festival is four days of activities, walks, talks, tours, exhibitions and displays, art, theatre and of course plenty of Roses. But it's not all roses - far from it. There are plenty of competitions, shows and activities for the whole family.

Guided Tour of the celebrated Timaru Rose Gardens

Timaru is often called the "Rose City" - not surprising given the fact that Timaru’s renowned public gardens have won national awards and international recognition.

Take a guided tour of two of Timaru's dazzling gems - the Species Rose Garden and Anderson Rose Garden in the Botanic Gardens.

The Timaru Botanic Gardens, features wide open spaces, tall towering trees, tranquil formal gardens and striking displays of rare and endangered species to stun garden enthusiasts of all levels.

The Botanic Gardens contain the Anderson Rose Garden and the Species Rose Collection along with over 30 other plant collections contained within the gardens, with several trails developed including an interesting Shakespeare themed walk, Trees of the World and Historical Walk.

Free guided tour - meet at the Queen St entrance at 1pm. The tour starts at Species Roses and will follow the road to south side. Conducted by Horticultural Officer Peter Thomson from the Timaru District Council.
