Leading Christchurch dance companies and schools come together to bring you an unforgettable dance performance.
All proceeds will go towards the 298 Youth Health Centre and creating a new and exciting 'Hub' of youth related agencies in the central city.
This is the second year that Christchurch based dance companies and schools put together a dance performance to raise money for the '298 Youth Health Centre'.
Companies performing in this year's gala include Rebound Dance Company, Hagley Dance Company, Julia McKerrow performing Choreographies by Fleur de Thier, Canterbury Ballet, Garden City Dance Academy, Sharon Howells School of Ballet, Studio One and O'Neill School of Irish Dancing amongst others.
The '298 Youth Health Centre' provides free, holistic health care for young Cantabrians between the ages of 10 and 25. From 1995 to 2010 a range of youth services were provided at the '198 Youth Health Centre'. Unfortunately a series of funding crises forced 198 to close. This closure was met by huge community protest and a dangerous gap in holistic, youth friendly, health care in Christchurch.
Despite all these set backs, The Korowai Youth Well-being Trust managed to recently open the new Youth Health Centre, '298 Youth Health', as part of a Youth Hub. The Centre stands as one of a collection of youth organisations that provide many different services from a group of houses along Barbadoes Street. This Hub is set to become Christchurch's and New Zealand's leading Youth support network for up to 30,000 young people. It is however, in desperate need of funding. Donations received from events such as this one are essential to its continuing success in supporting young people.
