Our collection is housed in the old Homebush brick stables building which has a Category 1 classification by the Historic Places Trust. The collection has a Rural regional basis with farming implements, old machinery, horsedrawn equipment, carriages. milking gear. In the loft there is a collection of rural and domestic artefacts. Installed is a large Stout Mills and Temple Water Turbine with a patent date of 1863 made in Dayton Ohio, installed in the turbine room in 1879. There is a domestic component to celebrate the part played by rural women. And a significant collection of 1905 all Blacks Originals rugby jerseys, blazer and cap from Bob Deans who lived at Homebush.
There is a restaurant, a shop, a talk about the history of the family and the part the Deans' family played in the establishment of New Zealand and Canterbury and a walk around the 8 acre gardens with its magnificent trees planted from the 1850's. The garden is registered with the New Zealand Gardens Trust.
