Arts Waikato was founded in 2001 when Trust Waikato identified a need to strengthen the community arts sector. Trust Waikato has remained the core funder of Arts Waikato since this time. Our primary role is capacity building – providing, information, tools, advice and facilitation to groups in the community arts sector. We have one community arts advisor who works alongside community arts groups to provide advice (with funding, marketing, events, planning etc.), facilitation, training and support.
In 2008 we also created the position of Kaiwhakahaere I nga Mahi Toi – or Maori Arts Advisor, to work specifically with Maori artists and groups within a Kaupapa Maori framework. In addition to this we have 2 part time Arts Education Advisors who work alongside schools to assist them to give children more opportunities to express themselves and their creativity through the arts. Supporting the service delivery team we have an office manager /administrator, and we have a CEO who works with the board and the community to set the strategic direction of the organisation and manages the implementation of this. We are a charitable trust and currently have 9 Trustees.
