John Sanchez-Lloyd and Phil Doublet both enjoy diverse and acclaimed musical careers. Although both live in Christchurch, the two only met when playing at a function in 2009 as members of The Ranchsliders. Musical respect was mutual and they were soon playing together whenever other commitments allowed. Lloyd and Doublet were introduced to a wider Christchurch audience at the 2010 Jazz and Blues Festival performing in the Diggin’ the Roots concert at the Town Hall.
Each performance finds them enthusiastically exploring the endless possibilities of combining piano, acoustic guitar and two voices. This musical union often results in a great mix of self-penned material and entertaining interpretations of songs performed with skill and inventiveness.
Keyboardist John Sanchez-Lloyd has, over the years, been involved in numerous bands and an assortment of musical projects. John has played with a wide range of performers including rockabilly artist Rosie Flores, blues singer Ruby Wilson and country artist Lynne Anderson. His session work has seen him contribute to recording of a wide variety of NZ artists including The Eastern, Graham Wardrop, Tiny Lies and The Gypsy Pickers.
Phil Doublet is a multi-award-winning artist/musician and is no stranger to the music scene. As a multi-instrumentalist and working from his home base in Christchurch, he is sought after as a session player for recording projects in Europe, U.S.A, Australia and New Zealand. Phil is a staunch advocate for original music in Christchurch. He has produced five albums of original music which have received accolades, including finalist for NZ Best Country Album of the Year 2017.
