An artist talk with Gary Peters about his new work in the exhibition 'New Old Forms'. This show opens 8th Feb at the Toi Pōneke gallery and runs until 29th Feb.
Based in Wellington New Zealand, Gary Peters makes site responsive installations, non-objective wall works, painting-objects and monochromes.
With an acute awareness of space, of things in space and colour he shares his observations providing viewers an opportunity to see the world afresh.
Often deploying systems and rules, and potentially removing the artist from the work, the hand is still very much present. There is an attention to detail, an appreciation of materials and a sheer enjoyment in the act of making to be found in this making driven, visual practice.
His most recent work sees him revisiting and developing his looser, drawing practice through a series of oil-stick works on paper and the Unpossible Drawing studies.
