This course is part of our programme a Writer's Weekend 22 - 23 August 2020 and will also be repeated on Sunday 20 September 2020.

Discover what makes a great picture book and learn techniques and tips to help you develop and write your own.

The course begins with a brief introduction to the picture book genre and then using a mixture of discussion, teaching, Q & A, exercises and feedback, we will cover the main aspects of the writing craft required to write your own, including:

- Story development
- The Do's and Don'ts of writing for the very young
- Developing your own style and voice
- What to do when you don't draw

We will also cover techniques and advice for editing and rewriting your own work, information on submitting your work, getting published, competitions and writer resources.

Who should attend? Anyone keen to write a picture book, anyone who has an unfinished or rejected manuscript sitting in a bottom drawer, those who may be looking to use their own illustrations.

Please note this course is intended for adult learners writing for children.

You are invited to attend our opening address at 9am on Saturday 22 August. Carole Beu from the Womens Bookshop will fire up the day with an early morning talk on her raves and faves. Have a cuppa, listen to Carol and meet others.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
