The 2020 Auckland Fringe Festival gives you Two and a Half Jokes! 3 male comedians in 3 different stages of their twenties explaining their extremely different life perspectives through personal experiences, hilarious anecdotes and silly jokes.
Since one of us is barely 20, that makes us approximately two and a half men, and as we are up-and-coming comedians, we realistically have two and a half decent jokes between us. Having said that, we are all semi-finalists and/or finalists of the 2019 Raw Comedy Quest, and early veterans of the open mic scene. Now is the time to test the gear we’ve honed and give you a sneak peak at the future of comedy in New Zealand!
We have all spent hours and hours on stage in front of laughing crowds of all shapes and sizes, from 100+ at The Classic Comedy Club to small bars in front of our parents (guess who heckles more). All this experience means that we’ve prepared our best 20 minutes each for a quality hour that all Aucklanders will rave about!
If you’ve never heard of any of these 3 clowns, the below should serve as a good introduction.
Jack Caldwell is a performer who loves to entertain a crowd every way he can, be it through self-referential humour, fun rants, or even “musical” performances (if a Guitar Hero guitar counts). This variety got him into the 2019 Raw Comedy Quest semi-finals, and the 2007 Fairfield Intermediate Speech Finals (Weird flex).
David Prentice did theatre sports at an all-boys high school in Hastings. He describes himself as a “maverick”, while his classmates described him as “an easy target”. His easy stage manner and conversational comedy style earned him People’s Choice at the Hastings Fringe Festival 2018, and he was a grand finalist in the 2019 Raw Comedy Quest.
Young comedian Joe Bell is the everyman comedian, if the everyman is a virgin and constantly wets himself. A 2018 and 2019 Raw Comedy Quest semi-finalist, Joe has 2 years of experience and lots to show for it. The 20-year-old continues to unlock his potential, one intentionally nervy performance at a time.
