“Tea & Zen taste the same” - an ancient Buddhist proverb which sheds light on the potential of tea.
Come immerse yourself in a tea ceremony and learn of the ancient art ‘Cha Dao’ or ‘The Way of Tea’. In the East, drinking tea was an opportunity for contemplation, meditation, and an elevation of mind and spirit. In Daoist and Buddhist traditions, drinking certain teas was often considered the perfect complementary tool for meditation.
We will begin by sharing some of our knowledge on tea - where it comes from, the difference between white, green, oolong, black & pu’erh tea, health benefits, the best teas for each season and the attributes of fine tea.
Tea ceremonies include sitting in stillness. We will teach a number of simple stretches and opening exercises to nourish and relax the body in preparation for the tea ceremony and the “3 cups of silence” meditation; a deeper way of experiencing tea and the self. The meditation will finish with setting intentions, letting go of the old to embrace the new.
We will serve two types of teas, showing how one plant, the beautiful Camelia Sinensis, can give such diverse tastes!
This workshop will give you a taste of the serenity that tea can offer. Guided by tea-lovers Kate & Henri Lebedev; passionate cultivators of the internal arts – QiGong, NeiGong, GongFu, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga and other treasures.
