Lights Over Marlborough is a spectacular fireworks display held at the Marlborough A&P Showgrounds in Blenheim each November. It is Whitney Street School’s major fundraiser for the year and among the biggest fireworks displays in the region.
This year, Lights Over Marlborough is on Saturday 14 November (postponement date Sunday 15 November). The gates open at 5.30pm for food and entertainment before the fireworks display.
Organisers welcome families and friends to come along from 5.30pm and encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy the pre-show atmosphere and entertainment, or purchase food from our various food carts. A large range of food and non-alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase and there will be free water on site.
The pre-fireworks entertainment includes a performance by Whitney Street School’s Kapa Haka group, Marlborough Boys’ College music students and Emile - a dynamic artist who prides himself in following inspiration from all genres/artists and legends, sharing the sounds of old and new, with a tweak. The range of sideshow stalls and activities includes crowd favourites such as a chocolate wheel, bouncy castles and a mystery bottle stall.
Tickets will be available on the night, or beforehand from Whitney Street School office, access from Whitney St or Eltham Rd, Blenheim, and from Gill Construction, 95 Middle Renwick Road, Springlands, Blenheim.
The Lights Over Marlborough fireworks display started from small beginnings in the school grounds and has grown to become one of the largest annual fireworks displays in Marlborough, with close to 5,000 people attending each year. The fireworks display is delivered by Fireworks New Zealand.
