The realisation that Planet Earth faces multiple emergencies has underpinned this CWEA course since 2018. We have endeavoured to harness accumulating wisdom, contribute our own perspective and prepare to write a sequel to the pivotal report ‘Strong Sustainability for Aotearoa NZ’ (2009). Somehow, we must tackle denial, knowledge deficit and deliberate misinformation, that drives ‘business as usual’ forward. The kaupapa of this series remains: designing practical, ‘bite-sized’, digestible steps or transitions to the future - without ‘frightening the horses’.
Our series has developed an evidence-based picture of our ecological, socio-cultural, and economic predicament. We are summarising these learnings and this next session will follow this towards a humane, rational ‘action plan’ by providing practical steps forward for Aotearoa, but also leadership in the global search for answers and solutions. This next session will define chapter headings and content outline for a Strong Sustainability sequel (homework will be to read that document/pdf) and set up writing teams to deliver. Time to act.
Each session will begin with a shared dinner of vegetarian pizza and salad, please let us know in advance of any dietary requirements.
