Think Talk: Emotion regulation, relationships and wellbeing
Tuesday 27 October 2020 7:30 - 8:30 PM

In this talk, I will first discuss the different ways people manage or control their emotions during emotionally challenging situations, with a specific focus on social interactions. I will also talk about how emotion regulation within intimate relationships shapes the degree to which individuals can successfully achieve personal goals, and how well couples can resolve their disagreements. Finally, I will discuss how parents' conflict can spill over to parent-child relationships within the family environment.

About Dr Rachel Low
Rachel completed her PhD in 2018 and is now a Research Fellow managing the Family Resilience and Wellbeing Project. Her primary research involves examining emotion regulation processes as they develop within and impact familial interactions. Her research includes examining what emotion regulation strategies are effective during adult relationship interactions, such as when people are striving to achieve personal goals and need support or when couples are managing conflict.

Rachel's research also focuses on how emotion regulation processes within couples' interactions spill over to subsequent family interactions, such as when parents are playing with or interacting with their children. Rachel is also interested in investigating how parents' emotion regulation strategies influence children's emotional experiences and regulation abilities.

Please register for this talk so we can plan seating for the expected numbers. A small donation on arrival at the door is appreciated but not compulsory.
