The New Zealand Festival of the Arts is proud to be the exclusive presenting partner in Aotearoa of the critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Romantics Anonymous presented by Wise Children, Bristol Old Vic & Plush Theatricals, directed by Emma Rice.
This is a unique and very special opportunity for New Zealand audiences to experience this beautiful new musical.
Romantics Anonymous was first seen at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2017 and was then revived in 2020. It played a three-week run at Bristol Old Vic in January 2020, before its planned tour of the USA was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic.
"A multi-faceted gem, chock-full of love, generosity and joy" - The Guardian
Angélique is a gifted chocolate maker crippled by social anxiety and Jean-René is the boss of a failing chocolate factory. When Angélique takes a job in Jean-René’s struggling factory, a fragile love affair unfolds. Funny, tender and painfully awkward, Romantics Anonymous is a delicious love story about breaking the mould and finding the courage to be happy.
"The feel-good factor is through the roof; you really will leave the theatre ‘dancing on air’ and beaming from ear to ear" - Broadway World
For one week only, Romantics Anonymous will be performed again, LIVE ON STAGE at the Bristol Old Vic! Wise Children will be bringing it live into your home – each night will be a truly one-off experience. The company have been isolating together in one large bubble for the last two weeks so that the show can be performed in its original form – with no social distancing! There will be singing, dancing and chocolate eating… and, if true love has its way, even kissing… Imagine that!
Here in Aotearoa we have the exclusive opportunity to watch the video-on-demand version from the comfort of our living rooms for just 5 GBP (approx. $9.50 NZ) from 7.30pm 26 September – 11.30 3rd October NZ time (it is available for 3 days from the moment you click view).
