Vonnie was born in Clyde, Central Otago New Zealand, and works as a full time artist in the Manawatu.
She specialises in Manawatu and New Zealand iconic landscape paintings, critical acclaim describes her work as ‘vibrant and powerful’.
“ I am always challenged and inspired by the light and atmosphere of the Manawatu, the terms expressionist and unashamed parochialism have been used to describe my local works. My iconic New Zealand paintings are instinctive and arise from the frequent sojourns around our wonderful country, particularly Central Otago.”
Commissioned paintings are a specialty, Vonnie works closely with her clients to achieve considered, accurate and unique paintings.
International recognition has afforded Vonnie a recent artist residency at Illinois University. She has exhibited in the States on three occasions and has been awarded an Arts Council Grant assisting her visit and exhibition in Palmerston North’s sister city, Missoula Montana.
Vonnie is an artist who readily shares her expertise and inspiration with other artists, art teachers and those beginning their creative journey. She has presented art teaching seminars in New York and Hong Kong, and is a co-author of two practical art teaching guides, “Toi Matarau”, and a published illustrator of children’s books.
